Vitamin D Tied to Weight Loss

Vitamin D is a well-known cancer preventative and overall health enhancer, but a new study has tied Vitamin D to a new health benefit: weight loss. A University of Michigan study found that higher Vitamin D levels on a properly balanced diet (a healthy diet is always essential to every aspect of health) helps people lose more than simply utilizing a properly balanced diet. What this means is that Vitamin D accelerated the weight loss process by itself, diet aside.
Dropping The Gut
Another interesting part of the study is that the weight loss was found to be particularly around the abdomen. Could Vitamin D help you lose the gut? Of course it can, but first you need to build up a proper nutritional platform to work from. Vitamin D and other essential nutrients can help speed up the process of weight loss, ward off cancer, and other deadly diseases, but they cannot replace food. Ensure that you are eating the correct foods, and be careful about deceptive labeling.
The subjects were monitored for 11 weeks, and given 750 fewer calories than their estimated daily needs. While of course it is a core principal to not surpass a set number of calories when losing weight, I found the method of counting calories to be ridiculous. You also do not want to go too far below your maintenance level (estimated daily need) or you will be hurting yourself. You do not need to starve yourself to lose weight! Simply eat the right foods and your body will be able to burn off the excess fat and process things correctly.
“Our results suggest the possibility that adding Vitamin D to a reduced-calorie diet will lead to increased weight loss in individuals with low Vitamin D levels,” said Researcher Shalamar Sibley, M.D., who headed the study.
The Many Uses Of Vitamin D
This study is yet another indicator that Vitamin D can be used to treat various conditions, now including weight loss. The majority of the U.S. is deficient in Vitamin D, leading to a multitude of problems. Find out the correct dosage requirements by getting your Vitamin D levels tested. The most trusted recommended daily intake is 5,000 IU daily.

I’m always amazed at what Vitamin D has to offer, and I truly see it as a miracle vitamin that people these days are unfortunately getting very little of (all that sun bashing–we need some healthy exposure!).
